Le Bazar des Poilus – 2nd edition

The Bazar des Poilus sums up the second edition of an ephemeral vintage men’s store offering clothes, shoes and accessories from 1890 to 1980, mostly from workwear and military wardrobes. Either we will tell you a bit more in detail what it’s all about or we will let Hell’s Kitchen magazine, which collaborates on it with the Leonard boutique, explain it. We suggest the second choice. Also a way to give a taste of it to those who don’t know the style of the on-line magazine Hell’s Kitchen, that we appreciate as much for its precise fashion vision as for its formula. In terms of over-used, now-meaningless and incredibly annoying words “vintage” takes
the cake. And we’re not even talking about a nauseatingly rich cake. Think more down the lines of the cheap and stale cookies available pretty much anywhere: unsavory and boring.
Etymologically speaking, vintage is used to described 20-year old Port. So let’s try to be more precise and talk about historical clothing, or, for the pieces that haven’t yet earned their place in a museum, clothing with a history. The thread which is used to create the material, is also the thread we use to go back in time, thereby re-connecting with the entire history of the clothing industry and textile production processes. If this history came to be forgotten, today’s fashion would all of a sudden be left clueless.
Especially given that recently there’s been a huge emphasis on the quality and “made in somewhere” (such as France) factors of products. This is all the more important when you consider that industrial-grade products manufactured in mile-long production lines, i.e. military khakis were durable as fuck. In fact, that was their calling card. But if you don’t believe us, all you’ll have to do is pick up the shoes we’ll be presenting at the second edition of our “Bazar des Poilus” to actually feel in your hands what we’re trying to explain.
Because yes, that’s what we were trying to get to, the second edition of our “Bazar” will follow in the footsteps of the first edition, yet better: still as much French work wear, but only of the rare-as-shit sort, none of the common vintage stuff you’re used to finding
everywhere; still as much military wear, because it would be pretty stupid of us to not insist on the two main arteries of the male wardrobe.
There will also be one new addition: historical technical garments, some old Gore-Tex and K-way items, etcetera.
Etcetera.
